Jurien Bay Adventures

Just over two hours drive north of Perth is the beautiful Jurien Bay. While cruising around town with a coffee, going for a leisurely walk, casting a line or enjoying the warmth lazing on the spectacular beach may be the ideal holiday for some – there are plenty of options for the more adventurous too.

Rolling down the cycle path on a Segway is a fun way to get out and take in the views. You can get a vehicle through Chariots of Hire, who will also give you some light skills training before you head out on a guided tour along the foreshore. There is plenty of history and local knowledge to learn along the way, and plenty of opportunities for keen photographers to snap some picturesque views. These machines are easy to use once you get the hang of it, and anyone aged 12 and up can participate. You do have to stay with the tour group though, as it is illegal to ride them otherwise.

Sandboarding down the white dunes at Sandy Cape.

Sandboarding is another popular activity in Jurien Bay and a lot of fun – not just for the kids either! Head 15 minutes out of town with Jurien Bay Adventure Tours to Sandy Cape Recreation Park where you can enjoy some fast-paced action down the clean, white sand dunes, finishing off with a swim in the clear, turquoise water. You can then take a 4WD tour up to North Head to the WWII Radar Bunkers, a fascinating insight into the area’s history and another chance to take some spectacular photos of the coast. If you are at Sandy Cape come sunset, stay and watch the sky darken from the boardwalk lookout, boasting 180-degree views out to sea.

There are some interesting cave formations in the area, perfect for a little exploration during the day. For those wanting a little more, the Stockyard Gully Caves tour will take you through 300m of cave created by an underground river system.

Snorkelling is also very popular in the area and you can hire equipment through Jurien Bay Adventure Tours if you have not brought your own. The Snorkelling Trail is an artificial habitat that extends about 25m along beach and is the perfect, safe place to see the wonders of the Jurien Bay marine environment. There is a host of underwater treasures to seek out, including brightly-coloured coral and spectacular fish.

So next time you are craving an escape from the city, or a place to warm up when its getting cold down south, check out Jurien Bay and its many adventure activities – it will be a family holiday full of fun, laughter and happy memories.
