Title: Soil Health
Broadcast: Nov 25th
Presenter: Zahra Ussi & Trevor Cochrane
We know we go on and on about the importance of getting your soil healthy on the show and your probably sick of it by now. But one of our friends sent in a video explaining how she gets her soil right. Today we pay her a visit.
- Zahra is a 17-year-old high school student with a passion for soil health. She lives in the challenging Perth environment, which has a number of problems.
- Sandy soil is no good for gardening as any nutrients inside or any water poured will go straight over or straight down.
- Zahra shows us how we can turn sandy soil into a loamy soil- add a quality compost and a kaolin clay with rock minerals and silt to your sandy soil.
- If you have sandy soils adding clay in the form of Kaolin clay is a great idea. It imposes water holding capacity and reduces demand as that water is held around the plants feeder roots. Best of all, follow Zahra’s advice and the change is permanent and never needs to be done again.
